When to Use Say Whoa

Horses can become dehydrated and slow in their digestion after a sudden change in weather, an abrupt change of feed, or a long ride or haul. Reach for Say Whoa when your horse:

  • Refuses feed or leaves hay uneaten
  • Seems off after trailering, showing or a long trail ride
  • Has had a recent feed or weather change and isn’t passing normal manure

Colic is an emergency. If your horse is rolling, sweating heavily, pawing or showing obvious pain, call your veterinarian at once.

How to Give Say Whoa (Dosage)

Horse weight  Dose
Over 100 lbs  Both syringes (2 x 60 ml)
Under 100 lbs  One syringe (1 x 60 ml)
  1. Lift your horse’s head slightly upward.
  2. Place the open-end syringe in the side of the mouth, like a wormer.
  3. Squeeze the contents in and let your horse swallow.

Follow the directions on the label that comes with your product.

What to Expect

Say Whoa’s ingredients work with the horse’s body through osmosis, helping draw fluid back into the intestine to soften impacted material and encourage bowel movement. About 30 minutes after giving it, listen for gut sounds. They should begin returning within about two hours, and your horse should seem more comfortable. If gut sounds haven’t returned in that time, or your horse gets worse, call your veterinarian.

What Say Whoa Can’t Help With

Say Whoa is not effective for a twisted, torsioned, knotted or ruptured bowel. These are veterinary emergencies, so never wait on a syringe to resolve them.

Safe For

Say Whoa can be used for horses and foals over 100 lbs, mares that are lactating or in foal, and horses of any size or age. It’s for use in horses only.

Ingredients

Calcium, vitamin D, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, peppermint oil, vegetable glycerin, purified water and sorbitol. Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol found naturally in some fruits and vegetables, and it has a laxative effect.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What are Say Whoa Stops Colic Syringes used for?

2. How many Say Whoa syringes do I give my horse?

Give both syringes (2 x 60 ml) to a horse or foal over 100 lbs, and one syringe to a horse under 100 lbs. Always check the label on your product.

Listen for gut sounds about 30 minutes after giving it. They should return within about two hours as your horse improves. If they haven’t, call your veterinarian.

4. Can I give Say Whoa to a foal or a pregnant mare?

Yes. Say Whoa can be given to foals over 100 lbs, and to mares that are lactating or in foal. For very young or fragile foals, ask your veterinarian first.

5. When should I call the vet instead of using Say Whoa?

Call right away if your horse is in severe pain, rolling, sweating heavily or repeatedly pawing. Also call if gut sounds don’t return within about two hours. Say Whoa is not effective for twisted, torsioned, knotted or ruptured bowels.
